This is technically still Friday as it's not 5am yet, but is there anything I can do to make her show up or something? Revert to pre midnight? Or is this just something that happens? I thought she always comes on meteor shower announcement days

2021.11.27 06:10 Zimo2017 Feedback on article for beginner landscape photographers

Hey there friends I'm on the verge of releasing my second article for my blog but would like to get some feedback before it goes live. Please tell me wherr I went wrong and what you liked. I will paste the article now. Look forward to your feedback.
Picking up your first landscape camera
The first step to becoming a photographer is choosing your first camera. Now this can be a wild mess as there are a plethora of brands to choose from at different price points all offering different features. Today I will help simplify that decision for you and help you make a decision based on your budget and important properties that should matter most regardless of which camera you choose which include mirrorless vs dslr cameras, mega pixels, high iso performance, dynamic range, ergonomics/weight, AF performance, lens selection , and future viability. As you advance in your photography and read up more and more you can start to narrow down specific brands and more specific features.
Budget: As far as spending goes usually not not always (yes I'm looking at you leica) the more you spend on gear the more features you'll get most things especially technology the more you spend the more features you'll get. having said that most entry level mirrorless and dslr cameras will get you a lot better quaility images than the phones you carry in your pocket that is until phones start coming with camera mounts and render cameras almost useless but we havent hit that paradigm yet. As for my advice the more you get into photography the more your body will change to meet your needs but usually the lenses are the ones that stay for the long run, as this article is focused on landscape photogrpahy features such high iso noise performance, quick af, and greater dynamic range can all be mitigated through different techniques for most situations excapt for the most complex of them so spending less for a body and spending more on lenses are what I would suggest for most photographers. The first serious camera I picked up was back in 2009 when the sony nex 5, sony's first e mount mirrorless camera with a 14 megapixel sensor came out and I could barely afford to get it with its 18-55mm kit lens since I was a broke college student. It served me well for 2 years and I still have it to this day in storage still functioning and it can still deliver some great images even in 2021.
Mirrorless vs DSLR: Mirrorless while not completely new is the new guy in town. The main advantages mirrorless brings is that for the most part bodies are portability, adaptibility and newer tech. For the most part mirrorless aps-c cameras are lighter smaller and easier to pack than their dslr counterparts and the aps-c lenses tend to follow suit with many manufacturers developing smaller lighter lenses for the purpose of portability. Sigma and Tamron are a great example of this. Second since these cameras have a shorter flange from sensor to lens you can adapt almost any lens made before these cameras were made thus opening up a plethora of lenses to choose from the only caveat being is that if they are af lenses they wont perform as well as since they are being adapted to a camera that wasnt originally meant to use them. Last is that since they are newer manufacturers will usually trickle down features found in more expensive bodies from previous generations giving you access to more features. The main downside is that mirrorless being newer it also means being more expensive especially if you buy new but buying used will save you a pretty penny. DSLR's are amazing systems in and of their own. The main drawback to getting one of these is that with the advent of mirrorless more manufacturers mainly Canon and Nikon are focusing on mirrorless and are focusing less on camera bodies or lenses for dslr systems the last dslr released by them in 2020 and then keeping silent on them for the entirety of 2021. Only one manufcturer being Pentax announced a new dslr in 2021. Another issue is that due to housing a mirror in the body these cameras tend to be bulkier and not as portable as their mirrorless counterparts. One final disadvantage is the optical view finder wont be able to provide with as much info as the electronic view finder found in mirrorless cameras. The upside to all of this is there is a huge used market where you can get these cameras used and there is a plethora of lenses to choose from as well though they arent as adaptable as mirrorless since their flange distance is a bit longer.
Ergonomics/weight: While I slightly touched upon this in the previous paragraphs ergonomics and weight play an important role in whether you'll be leaving your camera at home due to bulk or taking it with you anywhere you go. You should think about how much weight youre willing to travel with and what are you going to photograph. Usually modern day cell phones and compact point shoots are enough if you want to get family pictures while on vacation or having a get together. But the more serious you get the more youll want an advanced camera with advanced features and those are usually a bit heavier. The best way to test out the ergonomics and weight is by holding the specific camera youre interested in in your hands. Second best would be reading online reviews about the camera you plan on purchasing and looking up how much it weighs. The least and probably most questionable way is to buy it online from a retailer who allows free returns though you dont want to over do it if you go down this path. Modern day mirrorless cameras are usually light and lately there has been a push for more compact light weight lenses to atatch to those bodies and make them easy to go anywhere with. DSLR's on the other hand will tend to be on the heavier side and less portable but have a more comfortable grip usally and easier to hold for longer times.
Megapixels: Now this is a main point of debate, do more megapixals mean better pictures and the answer straight forward answer is it depends. But for the most part any camera with a 24 megepixel camera is enough especially for a beginner landscape photographer. The advantage to higher megapixels are two, first is you can print larger and still have a great amount of detail in your images and secondly you can crop in while reatining a lot of detail. In the past higher megapixel usually meant worse noise performance but the technology has gotten a lot better especially in 2021 and you can easily push to iso 800 on most modern aps-c cameras without worry of noise ruining the image. Another disadvantage is the higher the meagpixels the larger the file sizes especially if you are shooting in raw to edit later. On the flip side memory cards have come down in price and makes it easier to store more images.
Auto Focus Performance: When it comes to landscape photography most if not all the things you will be shooting are static with the exceptions of clouds and bodies of water. Which means auto focus shouldn't be at the top of your priority list when it comes to choosing a body. Most current camera have great auto focus for everyday subjects, where they usually will come short is lock on and tracking espcially with fast moving subjects such as athletes or birds, but this a field where usually pro photographers or entusiast are involved and they will pay a pretty penny just for the body alone.
Dyanmic Range: First question is what is dynamic range and secondly when does it matter? Firstly its the difference between the darkest and lightest pixel that a camera sensor can capture. In other words how far can you push the sensor before blowing out your highlights or clipping your shadows. So why does this matter? If you blow out your highlights otherwise known as overexposure you will lose all information in that area which means there will be a loss of detail and in can go in the other direction where you underexpose your photography to the extent you clip your shadows and arent able to recover any detail from there as well. Both situations are bad but if you have no choice its usually best to save the highlights and not clip them as they are near impossible to recover in post processing compared to shadows. there are other ways to mitigate this issue with techniques such as HDR, mean stacking and noise reduction software which I will talk about in future articles as they are beyond the scope of this article. In the grand scheme of things for a landscape photographer it matters mainly when you take sunset or sunrise photography where the sky will be bringht and everything else will be darker in comparison. Usually the higher the dynamic range of the camera the more youll be able to capture this info and make it easier to recover photos that might be slightly under exposed in the shadows.
High ISO performance: ISO is a measure of your cameras sensor to light. the lower your iso the less sensitive to light which means your image will be darker in comparison to a the same image with a higher iso. The higher you raise your iso the more sensitive it becomes to light which results in a brighter image. So why dont we keep the iso up when needed and the simple answer is the higher the iso the grainier the image will be and it also effects the dynamic range in a way that'll cause your image to clip faster than if you had it at a lower iso. When it comes to landscape photography you'll usually want to bring a tripod along with you and that help you to use lower isos which in turn will result in cleaner images. You'll usually want to use high iso if youre shooting handheld in low lit areas or if you're doing astrophotography, every other instance you'll want to go to the lowest iso available on your camera.
Lens Selection: A body alone wont help you in taking pictures no matter how much money you put on it. As with different camera manufacturers there will be different native lenses available to the specific camera you are looking to pick up. And a lens is the determining factor in the kind of shot youre able to come away with. When it comes to choosing a camera you want to see what lenses are available , what the prices are for said lenses and if third parties are also making cheaper alternatives. As I touched upon earlier mirrorless cameras have opened up the ability to adapt lenses of different manfacturers. This means you can potentially pick up cheaper alternatives although lenses especially older one have been going up in price due to be given new life from being able to use them with new mirrorless cameras from the likes of sony, canon, nikon, and fuji.
Future Viability: How much longer is your camera supported is a very important question. The older the gear gets the less official support there will be from the manufacturers in terms of parts and repairability which might mean itll get more expensice to repair if something does go wrong. With DSLR's the two biggest manufacturers being Canon and Nikon have pretty much slowed down on developement of new bodies and lenses and have put their focus on mirrorless having released newer mirrorless bodies and accompanying lenses. This is a sign that DSLR's are all but dead and mirrorless is here to stay. So if newer tech and newer lenses are important to you mirrorless would be the way to go.
Conclusion: I hope this helped you in your search for your camera and in what you're looking for. I know I didn't go into specific camera models but that wasn't the purpose of the article and I dont have hands on experience with a lot of models especially entry level cameras. Landscape photograpy can be very liberating and soothing due to getting out of the house and exploring all that God has placed on this beautiful Earth. Photography is an art form and you dont need the most expensive gear to express the scene you're viewing. Get out there and explore. Next week I will have a new article talking about the exposure triangle and hopefully have a new article up every Friday.

2021.11.27 06:10 succulentprops Hi guys, I need help understanding P types. May I know why P types tend to be uncomfortable or unwilling to set a time to meet until the last possible minute?

For example, when my INFP friend initiates a meet up with me, it takes her forever to decide on a time and place. She tends to decide only at the last possible moment (like, sheโ€™ll only let me know the time and place on the day of the meet itself). Iโ€™m a J type and it makes me very uncomfortable when plans are up in their air. It makes me think โ€œis the meeting still happening?โ€ And it also puts a halt on my plans with other people if i donโ€™t know whether or not my time on a certain day is locked in with another person.
Iโ€™d really appreciate your perspective on this, thanks!

2021.11.27 06:10 quod-inquisitio Thoughts about ETH

i want to speak about two of the main points about ETH (in my opinion, feel free to change my mind):

- high CO2 emissions that it produces for every transaction on the chain
their step to reduce the emissions with the planned upgrade is more than neccesary, since this is not in line with the overall megatrend to more sustainability and a more economicaly lifestyle.
what disadvantage does this upgrade bring with it in your opinion / whats the cost for switching from proof to work to proof to stake? since nothing is just black and white but everything has its pro's and con's.

- failed transactions also cost money (=gas fees)
this is, in my opinion, a really big downside of ETH, how should it establish itself on the long run as a main player in the blockchain-industry when there is a possibility that you basically just burn money.

for sure right now ETH is the second biggest player, but because of these two points i have some doubts in my mind about the progression of ETH away from a speculative investing option to a strong component in the everyday use of blockchain technology in the future, lets say in 5-10 years.

curious to hear your opinion about this topic.
